Ifrane was established during the French protectorate in Morocco in 1928. The landscape of the region is comparable to that found in Europe. The goal was to provide a place where the French could spend their summer holidays
The primary changeless settlement of the zone dates to the 16th century, when a sharîf by the name of Sîdî ‘Abd al-Salâm established his community within the Tizguit Valley, 7 km downstream from the displayed town. In Tamazight, the territorial Berber dialect, Yfran implies “caves”. Sîdî ‘Abd al-Salâm’s town, called Zaouiat Sidi Abdeslam (or essentially the zâwiyah), is comprised, to begin with of cave residences hollowed out of the limestone valley divider.
As it were within the final fifty a long time or so have its occupants built houses aboveground. The caves which presently lie beneath these houses are still utilized as troughs for creatures and for capacity.
