Morocco’s tourism sector experienced an unprecedented 39% growth in October 2023 compared to the same period last year, marking a significant achievement for the country’s travel industry.

The Moroccan Ministry of Tourism, Crafts, and Social Solidarity announced on Monday that the nation had welcomed over 12 million visitors in 2023. Despite initial apprehensions about the impact of the September 8 earthquake on tourism, Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor proudly declared, “We have just surpassed 12 million visitors in 2023, overcoming the challenges posed by the Al Haouz earthquake.”

Ammor highlighted that this accomplishment reflects the country’s dedication to diversifying source markets, stating, “We are on track for a record-breaking year, targeting 14 million tourists.”

the success of Morocco tourism success in September, initially deemed a record-breaking month with 960,000 tourists, suggests a sustained growth trajectory for the industry.

The tourism sector plays a crucial role in Morocco’s economy, contributing significantly to the national GDP and job market. This has been particularly notable in recent years, considering the global downturn in the tourism industry due to COVID-19-related restrictions and economic challenges.

Despite concerns arising from the September 8 earthquake near Marrakech, one of Morocco’s premier tourist destinations, the industry appears resilient and is on a promising path to recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
