Merzouga is a small village located on the south-eastern Side Of Morocco, about 30 kilometers From Rissani (Alaouite Capitale) & 50 kilometers from the Algerian border.
Looking for dunes? Merzouga is famous for its dunes, the highest in Morocco. The village is adjacent to the largest Erg in Morocco the Erg Chebbi. The spectacular golden dunes of Erg Chebbi are among the most elegant in the Sahara. Some dunes rise to 150 m in height. They stretch to the horizon from the famous Valley of Ziz (Gazelle in the Berber Language) and the Algerian border.

30 Minutes Before Departure
Departure from Fez towards Erfoud, IN road we’ll pass through a scenic forest of cedars and across the Middle Atlas Mountain range to the mineral mining city of Midelt, where a stop for lunch is scheduled. This journey continues along through the dramatic Ziz valley which is particularly well-known for its palm trees and the length of the oasis. All along the road, there are innumerable ksars, small villages of individual houses. From here we reach Erfoud, famous for its date festival and fossils.
After approximately 7 hours of travel, you will arrive at your final destination of Erfoud. Dinner and night in a Kasbah hotel.
Our day starts after you have breakfast from Erfoud to Rissani passing through fossils career, then get into the Alaouite Capitale (Rissani), in the city, we will have a traditional lunch (Medfouna) which is the most delicious food in the region of Tafilalt, after lunch, we will visit the mausoleum of the first Alaouite king ( Moulay Ali Cherif ) with a locale guide from the area.
Continue our road to Merzouga, the first destination in the city will be a small village called KHAMLIA on the outskirts of the city, to enjoy with local music of Gnawa, take a break there with a Berber cup of tea, then go ahead to the Kasbah hotel surrounded by sand dunes of Erg Chebbi.
You will have some time to relax by the pool before the next part of your adventure. You will walk or ride by camel over the sands as the sun begins to set and as you reach the magnificent Erg Chebbi sand dunes, witness them turning a wonderful red hue. As night falls, listen to the intoxicating beat of Berber drum music and song, enjoying a Moroccan home-cooked feast before sleeping under the stars in your private Berber tent.
You will have to wake up early to catch the sun rising up from behind a sea of sand dunes one of the most beautiful sunrises in the world, then you will camel trek back to the hotel where you will shower and have breakfast. After refreshing up, we will depart to Dades Gorges, including a visit to Rissani’s famous souk, the town where the Alaouist dynasty started ruling Morocco since 350 years ago until the moment.
Then we will pass through the town of Erfoud, very well known for fossils, also an international dates festival takes place in this town. We continue our way through a desert-like landscape and villages to join the wonderful Todra Gorges, a very beautiful canyon with 300m high walls and a 20m wide mouth. We hit the road to Dades. Overnight and dinner at the hotel.
After breakfast we will take the road to the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou via the Rose Valley including a stop at a rose distillation Unit in order to get a clear idea of how rose productions are manufactured, then continue by passing by the Skoura Palm grove and the road of 1001 Kasbahs, then we continue to join Hollywood of Africa, the city of Ouarzazate, very well known for being the spot of the international movie makers and in which famous movies were filmed such as “ The Mummy”,” Prince of Persia”, “Gladiator” and so many other movies.
Then we continue our way to the famous UNESCO World Heritage site Ksar or Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a very wonderful fortified city that stands at the edge of a hill separated by a running Ounila river. Then we drive via the Atlas Mountains to pass via one of Morocco’s amazing roads, the Tichka Pass which stands 2260m above sea level. Then we will stop for a cup of coffee and a visit to the women’s Argan oil co-operative. After that, we continue to join the red city. Drop off at your accommodation.
